How Can We Afford it?

How can we not. I'm not suggesting you donate there, but do the calculation... it's eye opening.

yikes! we "poor missionaries" are WAY rich! in fact anyone who makes over $1000 is wealthier than average...

now all I can think about is the words from James 5: "now listen, you rich oppressors... you have lived on earth in luxury and self indulgence..."

well it does help me to not feel guilty about being "the only family here" who didn't take our kids to an indoor waterpark over Spring Break... wow. Maybe the kids and I can save up for a waterpark adventure and then give that money somewhere...

Is the "only family here" a direct quote from your children? :)

thankfully, no. It's a quote from my own guilty conscience. Our younger two are happily clueless, and our older two know better than to try that one... so they're specific instead. "X family got to, and so did Y family"... but sometimes that induces more (false) guilt than the generic 'everyone'! sigh...

I heard a quote once that I liked: "I give my children less stuff, so that they will love me more."
